Archive triage for Windows
Browse, Preview and Search Archives Without Extracting Everything
When an archive contains thousands of files, unpacking it all just to find one document is wasted work. DotFix ZIP Forensics lets you explore the file tree, preview supported content and search names or decoded text before saving selected files.
One investigation view for several archive formats
Open ZIP, 7Z, RAR, TAR, TAR.GZ and TGZ archives in the same tree-based workspace. The application identifies supported formats by their contents rather than relying only on a filename extension. You can move through folders, inspect metadata and extract only the items you decide to keep.
Important distinction: Browsing, preview and search cover the supported formats; recovery from damaged or incomplete data is currently a ZIP-specific capability. For that workflow, see recovering files from a damaged ZIP.
Read the relevant file before writing it to disk
Preview images, documents, spreadsheets, source code, JSON, XML and other supported content directly in the application. The viewer can recognize common file types from content when an extension is absent or misleading.
This is particularly useful when you need to inspect a backup, review a received evidence bundle or locate a particular asset without creating a full extracted copy.

Search filenames and decoded content
Search by file mask, text or regular expression. You can search names, decoded content or both, then move through matches without manually opening every candidate. The Find in Archive guide explains the available controls.
Whether you are looking for a configuration key, a line in a log or a particular document, the goal is the same: identify what matters before extracting anything unnecessary.
