A missing central directory, an interrupted download or a damaged entry does not necessarily mean every file is lost. DotFix ZIP Forensics scans the available bytes for surviving ZIP records and lets you inspect what can still be recovered.
What kind of ZIP damage can it investigate?
Missing or damaged central directory
When the index at the end of a ZIP is gone, the scanner can still look for local file records in the data that remains.
Interrupted downloads and backups
Open the incomplete file you actually have. Entries recorded before the cutoff may still be available even if ordinary archive tools refuse to open the ZIP.
Damage in the middle of an archive
The scan continues past damaged regions to find later ZIP records, rather than assuming the first unreadable entry ends the investigation.
Partly available file data
For Stored and Deflate entries, the application can preserve readable content when the compressed stream is incomplete and label the result as a partial recovery.

File recovery is not the same as repairing the whole archive
DotFix ZIP Forensics works to find and recover readable files; it does not promise to recreate an undamaged copy of the original ZIP. Missing bytes cannot be restored, and results depend on which records and compressed streams survived. Partial recovery is currently available for Stored and Deflate entries; other supported ZIP methods can recover readable entries but may not yield a partial file when their compressed data is damaged.
Format boundary: This damaged-data recovery workflow is for ZIP containers. Other supported formats, including RAR, 7Z and TAR/TAR.GZ, can be browsed, previewed and searched before selective extraction where readable; do not assume the same damaged-ZIP recovery behavior applies to them. Password-protected ZIP entries require the correct password.
